A sandstorm cancels our trip to Abu Simbel alI by with flights and school across Egypt:
We spend the morning reading a bit
Then drive to see the High Dam that officially “tamed the Nile”
And buy textiles.
After lunch and naps, we take a short walk along the river at sunset:
Then go to Philea Temple by boat for a “Sound and Lights Spectacle.”
My favorite part of the show was during one of many dramatic moments they illuminated a doorway. Centered there was a knocked-over trash can and a stray cat picking through it. If only it had sensed Isis’ anguish over losing Osiris and had started licking itself over the swelling chorus of lamentations!
